Animget
Animget is one of the most useful programs for sprite ripping, hands down. This fantastic little program by Michael Menne takes screenshots of the active program (ie, an emulator running a game you want to rip sprites from) at a ridiculously fast rate. It saves a new screenshot every time the screen changes until you tell it to stop.

Tile Molester
Tile Molester, despite its somewhat disturbing name, is one of the best tile viewers for someone who's just starting out. You need the Java Runtime Environment installed to use this program. Developed by SnowBro. Here's an awesome tutorial written by DualEdge. Here's another one written by Ragey, who understands this stuff better than I could ever hope to.

Tile Molester (alternate)
This is another version of Tile Molester that is slightly modified from the original version, and includes support for GBA pallette files. It's not nearly as stable as the regular version, so keep the zip file around.

GGD
Another tile viewer, somewhat like Tile Molester but more flexible. You should really read Ragey's page, he knows all about it. And I really don't.
