Game Boy The Game Boy is a handheld video game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo. It was released in Japan and North America in 1989, and in Europe in 1990. In 1996 Nintendo released the Game Boy Pocket, a smaller unit that required fewer batteries. The Game Boy Color was released in 1998 and featured a color screen. The Game Boy had one of the longest continuous lifespans of any console, lasting from 1989 to 2002.
